چکیده
Background: Chronic liver diseases whatever their etiologies could be associated with immunological disturbances. Objectives: Our aim was to evaluate the prevalence and characteristics of autoimmune chronic diseases. Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis data from consecutive patients followed in our department for recruited January 2010 December 2019. Demographic, clinical, paraclinical were collected. Results: A total 224 included. The mean age 61.02 ±13.2 years sex-ratio 1.6. main etiology viral infection C (32.1%) by B (22.8%) non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (21.4%). 7.58%: hepatitis (AIH) four cases, primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) huit sclerosing (PSC) three cases overlap syndrome (AIH-PBC) two cases. Autoimmune noted 31 (13.9%): hemolytic anemia 15 thyroiditis 12 one case psoriasis, CREST syndrome, Sjögren’s thrombocytopenia. pathologies more disease than other causes (47% vs 11.1%, p <0.001). not statistically female gender (p = 0.085) or young 0.483). Conclusion: In study, during 13.9%. This higher (47%), which would underline importance systematic screening clinical biological immune manifestations those patients. Can patients with chronic liver diseases withstand Ramadan fasting?
Ramadan is a sacred month for Muslims all around the world. During this lunar-based month, healthy adult Muslims are obligated to abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, or using oral medications from predawn to sunset. Followers will typically eat just after sunset and again before dawn (1). The Islamic lunar Hijri calendar is 11 days shorter than the Gregorian solar calendar, and therefore, t...
متن کاملExtrahepatic Autoimmune Diseases in Patients with Autoimmune Liver Diseases: A Phenomenon Neglected by Gastroenterologists
Autoimmune liver diseases (AILDs) often coexist with other extrahepatic autoimmune diseases (EHAIDs). The spectrum of EHAIDs in patients with AILDs is similar, whereas the incidence is different. Notably, autoimmune thyroid disease and Sjogren's syndrome are the most common EHAIDs. Associated extrahepatic diseases may predate the appearance of AILDs or coincide with their onset. More frequently...
متن کاملCopper-associated liver diseases.
The liver is essential for copper metabolism. Copper metabolism is highly conserved between different species. This article provides the reader with an overview of copper storage disorders in humans and animals. Diagnosis and treatment of copper-associated hepatitis are described, and breed-specific characteristics of the disease are explained. A literature review references publications about ...
متن کاملUnmet clinical need in autoimmune liver diseases.
Despite recent advances in understanding and treatment, there remain significant areas of unmet clinical need in each of the autoimmune liver diseases (AILDs). The evolving research landscape and emerging large patient cohorts are creating unique opportunities to translate science into new therapies and care pathways, with the potential to significantly improve the lives of AILD patients. Howev...
متن کاملDiagnostic autoantibodies for autoimmune liver diseases
Autoimmune liver diseases are conditions of low prevalence that comprise the triad of autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis (cirrhosis) and primary sclerosing cholangitis and their poorly characterised overlapping syndromes. Diagnostic autoantibodies are associated with autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cholangitis but not with primary sclerosing cholangitis. Autoantibodies a...
